ALAN HALE JR. BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Alan Hale Jr. was born on March 8th, 1921 in Los Angeles, California with the birth name Alan Hale Mackahan Jr. His father, Alan Hale was a famous character actor and his mother, Gretchen Hartman, was a silent film actress appearing in over 235 films and therefore, it was only natural that Jr. would follow in his families footsteps and pursue a career as an actor.
His first appearance as an actor was as a baby and had no issues making the transition in the industry from child actor to adult actor. In the early part of his career he was a member of the Gene Autry's cast of players and would appear in numerous Autry films and later even on the Gene Autry Show. He also became very well known for his portrayal of the Skipper on the television show, "Gilligan's Island" which aired from 1964 through 1967 and co-starred Bob Denver, Russell Johnson, Jim Backus, Natalie Schafer, Tina Louise and Dawn Wells and evolving into a movie "Rescue from Gilligan's Island" (1978).
However successful he was in the film industry he was three times as successful working as a television actor. He appeared in over 100 television series, some of which included, "Gilligan's Island", "Biff Baker, U.S.A.", "The Lucy Show", "The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet", "Casey Jones", "Northwest Passage", "Fury", "G.E. True Theater", "The Restless Gun", "Bonanza", "The Alaskans", "Annie Oakley", "The Range Rider", "The Deputy", "Shotgun Slade", "Lock up", "Zane Grey Theatre", "Mister Ed", "Death Valley Days", "The Loretta Young Show", "The Andy Griffith Show", "Wagon Train", "Lassie", "Mister Ed", "Frontier Circus", "The Public Defender", "Wagon Train" and "Passport to Danger" among many others.
Not only did he have a successful career as an actor, he was also the co-owner of a restaurant in Encino, California called, Alan Hale's Lobster Barrel. Once he closed down the restaurant he then opened a successful travel agency.
Alan Hale Jr. married only once to Naomi Hale is 1964 and they remained together until he passed away on January 2nd, 1990 in Los Angeles, California after suffering from cancer. His remains were cremated and scattered in the ocean.
Alan Hale Jr. has been honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for his contributions to the entertainment industry.
