What is Matinee Classics?
Matinee Classics is the result of the vision of one man to create a place where ardent fans of film, television, and old-time radio can go to enjoy and remember--or to see and hear for the first time--recorded entertainment from the earliest days of the industry.

Why is this site important?
This easy-access site offers an opportunity for students of radio, movies, and television to study productions from the beginning of those industries through the decades, and offers devoted fans of those productions to hear and view old favorites and find new ones. Sadly, many of the earliest productions have been lost, and Matinee Classics serves as a repository where those that remain can be preserved for the future.

What can I find here?
Basically, what you'll find here is a history of radio, film, and television. Beginning with the "golden age" of radio, Matinee Classics offers more than 46,000 radio programs, close to 10,000 videos including more than 2,000 movies, and thousands of movie trailers, cartoons, educational and historical documentaries and newsreels. There are also more than 47,000 movie posters, lobby cards and publicity shots of the actors and movie title screens. You will also find more than 2,000 television programs and even more than 700 of the earliest television commercials.

Is the site family-friendly?
We work very hard to ensure that the productions offered here are family friendly, although parents should always monitor what their children are listening to or viewing. Remember that many of the productions offered here were produced before there were formal rating systems.

How much does it cost to use this site?
At present there is no cost to join the community. However, you may choose to purchase (via download or through the mail) videos, radio shows, and images at the prices assigned to those respective items on the pertinent web pages.

Do I have to register to use this site?
Registration is absolutely not a requirement. However, becoming a member will allow you to enjoy a multitude of content contained herein. Your experience will be magnified by joining with other movie, television, and radio show aficionados.

How do I watch a movie or television program, or listen to a radio program on this site?
A simple click of a button should suffice.

Do I need to buy any special software so I can listen or watch the programs here?
The great majority of computers already possess the necessary software to utilize all facets of this website. You may need to verify that your device incorporates the more common softwares, such as Adobe Flash, Windows Media Player, Apple QuickTime, and such.

I can't find a program I want to listen to or watch. What do I do?
Come back often, and keep checking. This is an ongoing project with new programs and movies being added all the time.

How can I find a film or television program if I'm not sure of the title?
If you can't remember the exact title, try using the search feature using only one or two identifying words you do remember. If that doesn't help, try searching by actor and look at the filmography that is listed, or by director. Or, you can try searching by genre.

Do I have to buy an item before I can listen to it or view it?
There are select audio and visual files that currently have no cost associated for enjoying them. However, there may be some of the more rare and unique that you may choose to purchase.

Is everything on the site available for purchase?
We are working on this situation and will post information when it becomes available.

How can I buy the items I want to own?
At present we accept PayPal purchases which most people have access to, and shortly we will be adding the ability to use major credit cards such as Visa, MasterCard, etc.

Why does the movie/television program appear scratchy or blurry?
Remember, since some of the videos and images being offered are over 100 years old, they may not appear to be of the same quality that you expect from modern productions. These videos and images are being offered in their original production quality and were made using what was then the most current technology, and should be expected to show some age. These productions have been intentionally left in their original condition and have not been enhanced or colorized.

It would be nice to discuss these programs and movies with other fans. How can I do that?
